Ogikubo Jashūmon Closes After 70 Years – A New Beginning This Spring

On December 21, Jashūmon (邪宗門), a long-beloved café in Ogikubo, Tokyo, temporarily closed due to redevelopment around the station. The café will reopen in the spring under the name "Nogata Jashūmon" (野方邪宗門) at its new location in Nogata, Tokyo.

Ogikubo Jashūmon traces its origins back to 1955, when Takatoshi Nawa (名和孝年) moved the original Jashūmon from Kichijoji to Kokuritsu (which closed in 2008) and gave a franchise to Masatoshi Furota (フロタマサトシ) the same year. In November of that year, the Jashūmon Magic Club (邪宗門奇術クラブ) was founded and later merged with "Tenkai IGP" in 1958. After Mr. Furota’s passing, his wife Kazue (和枝) managed the café, though in recent years others had been running it on her behalf due to her age.

Nogata Jashūmon will mark a fresh start under new management, independent of the Furota family. Gratitude is expressed for the café’s 70-year history.
